Inti Raymi and Machu Picchu

Today, as I sit at a computer in my hotel in Cusco, thousands of people pack the streets to celebrate Inti Raymi, a festival in honor of the sun god. Though intreguing, I had to take a bit of a break from the mobs of people, vendors, marching and music. It is truly a sight to behold. Cusco reminds me of Antigua, Guatemala. It is a European-feeling city amidst mountains and diverse culture.

Yesterday we visited Machu Picchu. We arrived after waking up at 445 am, taking a train, bus and a short hike to this wonder of the world. We happened upon MP on the busiest day of the year, the winter solstice, so there were loads of people. The intelligence of the Incas facinates me. Fortunately I will be able to go again with the next group!

The students from St. Anne´s left today. They were excited to go home, sad to leave their new home and full of new memories and experiences that will surely change thier lives forever. Adela and I hugged as we said goodbye to our ¨hijos¨. I hope to see them in Denver in the fall. As we wrapped up our time together last night, I reflected again on my great fortune and wonder as to how I happened upon this life. I must be doing something right...

Tomorrow I will meet with my co-leader for the next group that comes in a few days!
