Gratitude and clocks
Well, this is it. In just 5 hours I will be on a plane back to the US. As I sit in the hotel eating my favorite plantain chips, "tajadas", I reflect, project and wonder about time.
Though the pace of life here is much slower than the states, the clocks seem to move faster. Somehow this month passed quicker than any other. Despite the long and short arms of the clock moving quickly in circles, when I begin to sumarize this journey I realize those arms created more amazing relationships and adventures in Nicaragua.
I am grateful for these relationships and opportunitites. Kitty has been wonderful, and without her care and friendship, my part in this story would not be possible. Her way of "being with" the people of Nicaragua and the women of the Casa is truly admirable.
I am also grateful for the ability to communicate with the people here. Their stories are what I bring with me, more than anything else. Just stopping for a moment to chat can elicit life-long friendships. In the states, I will make more of an effort to take a minute out of my whirlwind lifestyle to listen to more stories.
On the eve of the independace of the US, I wish for awareness and openness for everyone. I wish for consciousness and decisions made with purpose. I hope for less cultural-blindness and more human recognition because really, that´s what we all are-human. If we could only see each other as such, just imagine the possibilities.
